Description

Take a guided visit of Higher Uppacott a Grade 1 listed Dartmoor Longhouse, a building which is of rare and national importance. A longhouse was a building in which both animals and humans lived and Higher Uppacott (HU) still retains its shippon (where the animals lived) in an unaltered state. Take a journey on the development of comfort as you see how this building was adapted and changed over the centuries to reflect changes in the way people lived and consider its setting within the wider historic landscape.

Meeting Point: Please meet at Higher Uppacott where you will be directed by the guide as to where to park as space is limited. From Ashburton take the Dartmeet/Two bridges road and HU is located approx. ½ mile from Poundsgate just past the Methodist chapel (on your let).

Advisory: Please be aware when booking that there are several steps, low beams and uneven floors within the longhouse. There are is limited heating so please dress warmly.

Dogs: Sorry no dogs (accept assistance dogs).

Duration: Tours take approx. 1 ½ hrs.

Suitability for Children: Visits to Higher Uppacott are probably more suited to children 8+
